Benefits of early use of ScarMD Silicone Scar Gel

If you’re recovering from a recent injury or surgery, you may be wondering when you can start treating your scar or scars. With all of the different products on the market, you will hear different reports on the efficacy of various treatments. Fortunately ScarMD Silicone Scar Gel is an easy way to quickly start treatment, and you’ll quickly see results in the form of both reduced visibility, and increased comfort of your scars. But with most treatments, timing is everything, and there are ways to better increase your odds of flattening your scars, or reducing redness. Here are some best practices in getting the most out of your ScarMD Silicone Scar Gel.

Wait until your scar is completely healed

All body and skin types are different, and react differently to post-op treatments. More importantly, everybody has different skin types that may require different treatment conditions, or regimens. In regard to the healing of your initial injury or operation, it’s always a best practice to consult your physician on when you could start using ScarMD Silicone Scar gel, but a general rule of thumb is that it takes about 3 weeks for a wound to fully heal. If you received stitches for your incision or injury, you should wait until they have been removed or dissolved.

The earlier, the better

While ScarMD Silicone Scar Gel has been proven to be effective on scars that are years old, optimal results have been reported from early use. From initial healing through the first 3-4 months will yield the most desirable results. Silicone gel heals scars by increasing hydration of the stratum corneum (the uppermost layer of the skin). This facilitates regulation of fibroblast production and also reduces collagen production. Essentially, this allows skin to “breathe”, thus resulting in a softer and flatter scar. While old scars do see improvement through silicone gel applications, early treatment will have more dramatic results because there is less collagen to break down.

Keep it regular

For silicone gel to be effective, it should be used at least twice daily for the first 3-4 months. The best way to keep up with this treatment regimen is to work it into your routine. If you take medicine twice a day, or brush your teeth or shower when you wake up and go to sleep, it’s simple to simply add the application of your Scarmed MD Silicone Scar Gel to the mix. If you find yourself being forgetful, simply add an alarm to your phone or put a reminder on your calendar app to remind yourself to stay on top of your treatment. Consistency is key in any treatment, and it’s no different for scar therapy.
